Pilot Grant Funding Opportunity

The Center for Population Health Research (CPHR) Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (CoBRE) expects to support 2 or more Pilot Projects at $50,000 in direct costs. Key dates are indicated below. Applications must describe a pilot-type research project that fits well with the scientific theme of the CPHR and will provide preliminary data for an extramural research project grant application. Preference will be given to projects that will make good use of one or more CPHR Core Facilities at the University of Montana. This funding opportunity is open to all full-time research, tenure-track or tenured faculty at the University of Montana, with some exceptions. Given the timing of this award (i.e., less than one year) preference will be given to projects that can demonstrate ability to complete the scope of work in the given timeframe. 

Key deadlines

  • Letter of Intent due: 5:00 pm MST on October 1, 2021
  • Invitation for full application by: October 4, 2021
  • Applications due: 5:00 pm MST on November 7, 2021
  • Anticipated CPHR Selection Date: December 20, 2021
  • Anticipated Project Period: March 15, 2022 – February 28, 2023 (no carryover of funds is allowed)

Letter of Intent

The required letter of Intent is limited to 2 pages or less. Letters of intent should briefly explain the proposed research and how it fits within the CPHR scientific theme. If applicable, explain how the project will utilize one or more of the CPHR Core Facilities.
