Center Researchers assist with COVID-19 response

Center for Population Health Research (CPHR) team members have been sharing their skills to support local and state responses to the coronavirus pandemic. Below are a few examples of how the Center has helped to combat the public health threat.

CPHR researcher Erin Landguth is developing COVID-19 disease projection models for Montana counties and hospital regions. She is coordinating with state epidemiologist, and CPHR advisory board member, Laura Williamson. These projections are essential planning tools as the state and local public health leaders develop strategies for surge capacity needs.

CPHR researcher Erin Semmens is working with the Missoula City-County Health Department to develop a local epidemiological profile of the COVID-19 outbreak. She is providing regular updates to the coronavirus investigation team. These data will be useful not only for responding to the current outbreak, but also to inform long-term planning for local coronavirus response.

CPHR researcher Sophia Newcomer is a member of UM President Seth Bodnar’s coronavirus task force to advise on university response, monitor federal and state recommendations, implement guidance and communicate with the community. She has also participated in a recent coronavirus webinar for over 180 Montana high school educators and students.
