UM domain password update
If your UM domain password has been reset to a temporary password, or if you want to update your password before it expires (or for any other reason), follow the steps below to change your current password to a new password.
From Outlook Web Access (for Mac users or off-campus users or any device not on the UM domain network)
Once logged into Windows with your temporary password, press Ctrl-Alt-Delete on your keyboard. You should then see a screen similar to the one shown below. Click on the "Change a passwor" link on the screen.
You should now see a screen similar to the one below. Put 'UM\firstname.lastname' into the first field, replacing firstname and lastname with your first name and last name, as they are specified in the UM campus directory. Type your temporary password into the second field. Type your new password into the third field, and confirm your new password in the fourth field.
After clicking the right-arrow button, as shown in the image above, you will see a screen indicating that your password has been updated.
For devices located off-campus or non-Windows machines, you can update your UM domain password through Outlook Web Access. Point a browser at https://messaging.umt.edu (link opens in a new tab or window) to get started.
At the Outlook Web Access login screen, enter your UM domain credentials (UM\firstname.lastname) and your existing or temporary password.
Once logged in to Outlook Web App, navigate to the options menu near the top-right corner of the screen and select the 'Change Your Password' option.
On the Change Your Password screen, your UM domain username should already be populated. Enter your current or temporary password and then your new password.
This will change your password on the UM network. If you have other devices that automatically check your email (phones, tables, desktops, or laptops), you will need to update those devices to use this new password for checking your email.
