Description

Employer Partnerships offers a 4-hour interactive workshop that introduces participants to key concepts and methods for effective change management through the principles of adaptive leadership: assuming a stance of inquiry, diagnosing the systemic, political, and cultural aspects of adaptive challenges, and effective intervention through political action and facilitating an adaptive culture. Participants will be given the opportunity to build their skills through exercises in which they apply adaptive leadership principles to a thorny, recurring problem they are facing in their own work. The goal is that participants will face
these thorny problems with new tools that will instill confidence in their leadership skills.

Learning Objectives:

  • describe the current challenges facing workers in public health
  • diagnose the technical and adaptive elements of those challenges
  • articulate why adaptive challenges require the development of adaptive
    capacity in the organization
  • explain and apply the adaptive leadership process: observe, interpret, and intervene
  • appreciate the value of curiosity, inquiry, and experimentation
  • act politically to expand their informal authority, find allies, and build coalitions
  • apply adaptive leadership tactics to a current challenge they are facing in their own work

Theresa Floyd teaches undergraduate, graduate and executive education courses in the University of Montana College of Business. The teaching areas include business management, human resource management, conflict management, and diversity, equity, and inclusion in organizations. She loves bringing her business experience and research to her teaching and has a passion for preparing her students for successful careers.
