Facilitating Behavior Change in Patients To Improve Outcomes: Motivational Interviewing for Healthcare Practitioners

The 2-day course will provide specialized training in motivational interviewing for healthcare professionals. Motivational interviewing (MI) has gained substantial empirical support as an effective option to counsel patients that are ambivalent or not ready to change behavior that affects their health. The distinct style, skills and strategies that characterize the approach differ from traditional persuasive methods by enabling patients to discover their own intrinsic motivation for change.

Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy Seminar Series

The course series is made up of 6 weekends over a 6-month period and covers evidence-based examination and treatment of all body regions. A comprehensive continuing education model is used to enhance clinical reasoning and orthopedic manual physical therapy skills. Each weekend, participants will be engaged in laboratory/lecture related to the best evidence in orthopedic physical therapy practice. Class size is limited to provide the participant with the opportunity to receive individualized instruction from the course faculty. Participants may elect to attend the entire course series or sign-up for a single weekend course.

The courses will provide a framework for individuals in preparation for the Orthopedic Clinical Specialty (OCS) Examination, but is appropriate for clinicians of all levels.

As the course involves advanced clinical reasoning and manipulation it is only open to physical therapists.
