Awards & Scholarships

The physical therapy program distributes over 20 scholarships a year.  These scholarships typically range in value from $100 - $3000.  Scholarships are distributed only to established students in the program.

Beth Ikeda and Dan Sieckman Scholarship

The scholarship is awarded to a first or second year student who has provided outstanding service to the profession of Physical Therapy and to the School of Physical Therapy. The quality of service is important, including a optimistic and constructive approach. The faculty select the recipient.

Carmen Cobb Stufft Memorial Scholarship

The scholarships are awarded to a first or second year student. The faculty select the recipient based on the submitted application and preference is given to students from the Augusta, Cut Bank, or Kalispell areas.

Catherine C. Goodman Scholarship

The scholarship recognizes a first or second year student who has demonstrated resiliency under adversity with a positive attitude, compassion, and grace towards self and others. The faculty select the recipient.

Community Medical Center Scholarship

The scholarship is awarded to a first year student. The faculty select the recipient based on the submitted application and letter of recommendation from a physical therapy clinician. Criteria for selection include:

  • Demonstrated evidence of leadership qualities such as self-confidence and optimism.
  • Community involvement with activities involving working with disabled individuals.
  • Preference will be given to students with previous experience working in a physical therapy clinic or department.

Edward S. Chinske Memorial Scholarship

The scholarship is awarded to a second year student. The award recognizes potential for outstanding leadership and skills in clinical practice. The faculty select the recipient based on the following criteria:

  • Demonstration of exceptional clinical skills and analytical thought in practical examinations administered by the faculty.
  • Letter of recommendation from a Clinical Instructor delineating strengths of the applicant's clinical skills and knowledge.
  • Outstanding case write-up (PT 576) from prior clinical internship.
  • Application form including a typed statement describing your future professional goals and how your past clinical experience has influenced those goals.

Ernest L. and Ruth A. Kradolfer Scholarships

The scholarship recipient is a student entering the second year of the physical therapy program with financial need. The recipient must be a Montana resident and have graduated from a Montana high school. The Kradolfers recognize the difficulties that some students face and would like to encourage these students during these difficult times with some financial assistance which will help them to preserve. The faculty select the recipient based on the following criteria:

  • Stated financial need as assessed by The University of Montana Financial Aid policies
  • Completed application including a brief statement as to why you are deserving of this award.

Ruth A. Kradolfer Physical Therapy Humanitarian Award

The award recognizes an outstanding first or second year physical therapy student who has made a significant humanitarian contribution while a physical therapy student or prior to attending physical therapy school. This contribution is to be in an area of human service such as education, health, living conditions or any other area of public of social welfare. The faculty select the recipient based on the following criteria:

  • The recipient must be a Montana resident.
  • Completed application including a typed statement describing the service completed and why they are deserving of the award.

James Wedum Endowment Scholarships

The recipients are selected from Montana resident students of the College of Health Professions and Biomedical Sciences, by the Dean, in recognition of high academic achievement.

L.D. (LUD) Polich Scholarships

These scholarships are available every other year to three deserving and needy second year physical therapy students. The faculty select the recipients based on the following criteria:

  • Completed application.
  • Stated financial need as assessed by The University of Montana Financial Aid policies.
  • Demonstration of academic achievement.
  • Letter of recommendation describing recipient's likelihood of helping others.

Nora Staael Evert Scholarships

The recipients are students of the first year physical therapy class who possess outstanding leadership qualities. The faculty select the recipients based on the following criteria:

  • Completed application.
  • Creativity, initiative, optimism, sense of humor, reliability, self confidence, and physical and mental energy.

Nora Staael Evert Professional Achievement Awards

The recipients are a male and female student of the graduating class. The recipients are selected by the members of the graduating class based on the criteria of leadership, motivation, attitude, professionalism, and program involvement.

Vince Wilson Scholarships

The recipients are students of the first year physical therapy class. The faculty select the recipients based on the following criteria:

  • Completion of the application demonstrating service to the community, University, or Physical Therapy Student Association.
  • Academic achievement.
  • Stated financial need as assessed by The University of Montana Financial Aid policies.

Vince Wilson Outstanding Achievement Award

The recipient is selected by the faculty from among the graduating students. The recipient is recognized for academic excellence and outstanding achievement.
