UMSSW Anti-Racist Principles
In response to the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and the ongoing calls for racial justice, the School of Social Work began the process of critically examining our own organization to determine the extent to which our policies, practices and curricula are anti-racist. As part of that process, our School has developed a draft set of anti-racism principles anchored in our social work values to guide all organizational functions. We are committed to adopting principles that achieve anti-racist outcomes because we understand the incredibly deleterious effects racism has on Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) students, the clients we serve and society as a whole.
To ensure our principles are as robust, thoughtful and active as possible, we would be grateful for any feedback our community has on this document. These anti-racism principles are a just a start and we welcome anyone to read the document, consider the content and provide us with constructive feedback.
