Description

This interactive course is designed to enhance participants’ knowledge of motivational interviewing (MI) skills and provide opportunities to practice those skills. Topics include the core principles of MI, along with techniques such as open-ended questions, affirmations, reflections, and summaries. These, along with other current research, resources, and best practices, can help learners collaboratively respond to ambivalence and “change talk” in order to help others. This course will focus on COVID-19 related scenarios, and will help participants navigate challenging conversations with their clients, colleagues, friends and family to make behavioral changes or take action.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain Motivational Interviewing (MI) and the “MI Spirit”
  • Identify the four pillars of MI
  • Assess strategies to use in conversations that require change
  • Practice techniques in actual scenarios
  • Develop a personal style of using MI skill
