Public and Community Health students have the opportunity to work with the University of Montana Student Wellness Program as peer health educators.  Peer health educators offer a wide variety of health promotion programs to the campus community.

Many people face challenges to living healthy lives. Challenges associated with maintaining good health are not only influenced by an individual’s health related behaviors, but also by their social, economic and physical environment. If you are interested in promoting health, preventing disease, and enhancing the quality of life for individuals and communities, the program in Public and Community Health is the program for you. As a graduate of this program, you will gain the knowledge, skills and experience to tackle real-world health problems using scientifically sound and culturally competent strategies.

Public and Community Health graduates will be prepared to work in a variety of settings; including non-profit health organizations, public health departments, worksite wellness programs, college and university human resource and wellness programs, community-based health agencies, and primary health care sites such as hospitals, health clinics and health maintenance organizations.

Students graduating with a bachelor's degree in Public and Community Health will be eligible to take the national exam to become Certified Health Education Specialists.

It is an exciting time to be a part of the Public and Community Health program in the School of Public and Community Health Sciences. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (2019) has this to say about job prospects, “Overall employment of health educators and community health workers is projected to grow 16 percent from 2016 to 2026, much faster than the average for all occupations. Growth will be driven by efforts to improve health outcomes and to reduce healthcare costs by teaching people healthy behaviors and explaining how to use available healthcare services.”
