Mina May, M.S., CCC-SLP is the Distance Program Coordinator and Clinical Assistant Professor in the school of Speech, Language, Hearing, and Occupational Sciences at the University of Montana. Originally from Honolulu, Oʻahu, Mina obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Dramatic Arts with an emphasis in Directing from the University of California-Santa Barbara in 2005. She worked in the film/television industry in a variety of capacities for local and national companies while also teaching performing arts to all ages. Mina moved to Missoula, MT in 2009 and became an early childhood educator at a mindfulness-based school focused on social/emotional development which led her to an interest in speech and language development. Mina obtained her Master of Science in Speech Language Pathology from the University of Montana in 2016. She joined the Missoula-based private practice, Stack Speech Therapy Group, which partnered with occupational therapy to merge as the interdisciplinary clinic, Moving Mountains Therapy Center, focused on providing family-centered care and community outreach in a variety of settings. Through this experience, Mina gained invaluable skills as an SLP and a clinical supervisor while being directly involved in clinic operations and community outreach coordinating. Her clinical interests include literacy and language development, aural habilitation, trauma-informed care, and cultural competency. Through her role as the Distance Program Coordinator, Mina hopes to improve access to higher quality education for all while providing high-quality mentorship to future speech language pathologists as a clinical assistant professor.
